After my husband passed, I devoted myself to protecting our children’s future. His life insurance money was never a replacement for him, but it gave me the chance to provide stability and security for our two kids. It started with quiet suggestions from my in-laws. They insisted some of the money should go to my husband’s grandparents, despite the fact they had rarely been present in our lives. They claimed it was what my husband would have wanted. When I refused, explaining that the money was for our children’s future, the guilt-tripping began.
